NUTN Department of Visual Arts and Design

1. University Core Required Courses: 12 credits
2. General Education Electives: At least 12 credits
   • Students must complete courses in at least three of the following four areas:
     • Humanities, History, Philosophy, and Arts
     • Society and Contemporary Issues
     • Life Sciences
     • Science and Technology Exploration
3. Diverse Learning Courses: Up to 6 credits

1. College Core Required Courses: 2 credits
2. Departmental Courses: 76 credits, including:
   • Department Required Courses: 38 credits
   • Department Core Elective Courses: 38 credits

1. Students may take elective courses offered by the Department.
2. Students may take elective courses offered by other departments.

3. Integrated development of professional arts education and teacher preparation, enhancing students’ competitiveness at both national and international levels.
4. The undergraduate curriculum comprises five major areas:
   • Western Painting and Creative Practice
   • Ink Painting and Creative Practice
   • Mixed-Media Creative Practice
   • Digital Art and Creative Design
   • Art and Design Theory

These five areas address students’ needs for employment and further study. Students select a specialization for their graduation projects according to their personal interests and career plans, thereby developing professional competencies in art and design. A minimum of 128 credits is required for graduation.


(2) Teaching Features

The department cultivates students’ diverse potential in the arts. Its teaching content responds to contemporary trends by incorporating the study of urban art theory, the development of creativity, and training in the use of computer-based media as tools for communication and information transmission.
The curriculum emphasizes the balanced development of painting, mixed media, design, moving image, and installation art. By integrating art and technology, it meets the needs of contemporary society and supports the career planning of a new generation of students pursuing the arts.
